Accountability in recovery can catapult a chronic relapser into long term recovery.

With the right environment, accountability can help people who cannot stay sober look at their action and be honest with themselves.

The biggest difference at Burning Tree Ranch from other treatment centers is our focus on the importance of accountability in recovery.

By the time clients get here, they have broken relationships with family members. They cannot stay sober from drug addiction and they have tried multiple addiction treatment centers.

The recovery process has not worked for them. The clients who go to Burning Tree Ranch sometimes have gone to more than 10 treatment centers.

We designed The Ranch exclusively for the chronic relapser.

Living Life With Excellence Beyond Sobriety

At Burning Tree Ranch your son or daughter learns life skills and is fully immersed in the 12-step process. They get licensed and proven medical and mental health treatment.

“Most people who come here have had good information that they could have applied to their lives,” said Jesse Earwood, Burning Tree Ranch Recovery Services Coordinator. “But most of them have a delay or inability to put into practice what they have learned.”

With a blend of clinical and psychiatric care, accountability and structure is the ingredient for a complete change in our clients’ psyche and attitude.

At Burning Tree Ranch, you are held accountable to the things you never were willing to do. Clients are held to a standard of excellence and required to show up for their life.

All of it, Jesse says, boils down to accountability.

“Our program helps hold you accountable and helps you understand how personal accountability is critical if you want to live a life of sobriety and freedom from drugs and alcohol.”

Time For Proper Dual Diagnosis

Burning Tree can look deeply at co-occurring disorders that are blocking participants from recovery. Other mental disorders are more visible when they are at a place for more than eight months.

“It’s very possible that they hid their eating disorder, or sex addiction or other disorders at a shorter termed treatment center,” Jesse said. “That is hard to do at a place like Burning Tree Ranch because of our accountability.”

On the other hand clients might have been diagnosed with many disorders. In reality they are faced with the grim reality of untreated alcoholism.

“We get a much more refined and accurate picture of what is going on with our clients in a controlled environment,” Jesse said. “Recovery is free but the extra support to help someone look at themselves honestly is not. That’s the environment we provide.”

Being Honest Through Action

The Ranch focuses on identifying when a client’s behavior doesn’t match their words.

Behavior tells the truth.

“They all have character defects, or their own skill set at disarming a situation so they will not be held accountable,” Jesse said. “We don’t allow the manipulation that is designed to divert from the truth and get out of being accountable.”

Most clients say they went to A.A. They got a sponsor and did the steps. But most of the time they did a version that they thought was a good idea.

“There is a lot of bad information out there. But there is also a lot of good information,” Jesse said. “The people who come to Burning Tree Ranch are incapable of looking at either.”

They also were not brutally honest with themselves. Burning Tree Ranch helps clients see the truth — past what they’re doing or not doing right now.

“We don’t let them dance around the truth,” he said. “Particularly around family and around how they interact around the family.”

More About Burning Tree

Burning Tree Ranch is a long term residential treatment center located outside of Dallas in Kaufman, TX.

Treatment at Burning Tree is based on spiritual principles that treat the “whole person” coupled with proven medical and mental health interventions. We strongly believe in participation in 12-Step programs as an adjunct to professional counseling and therapy. 12 Step meetings are attended daily.

We serve clients with a chronic relapse history and our length of stay varies based on the progress of each individual, and could be more than a year. Clients will then transition into the aftercare component of our curriculum, ideally and potentially placing their commitment at 2 years.
