Family Systems Therapy

Family Systems Therapy Focuses on Fostering Change

Family Systems Therapy, also known as family counseling is a branch of psychotherapy focusing on fostering change and development in families and couples in intimate relationships.
Addiction and Mental Illness affect the whole family.
During the early years of family systems therapy’s development the “family” was considered only in terms of immediate blood relations. Consequently, it has since evolved to define family more broadly in terms of supportive, long-term relationships – even between those not related by blood or marriage.
Family systems therapy uses a number of psychotherapeutic techniques to influence changes in families.
  • Systemic coaching
  • Reality therapy
  • Psychoeducation
  • Relationship education

The Importance of Family Therapy

Family Systems Therapy promotes familial relationships as important to psychological health and it promotes changes in terms of the forms of interaction between and among family members.
Though there are multiple schools of family therapy, a common belief they all share is that involving family members in solutions to therapeutic issues is beneficial, regardless of whether the patient views the matter as an individual or family issue.

What to Expect

In Family Systems Therapy meetings often consist of multiple family members gathering at the same time, allowing the therapist to observe relationships and interaction patterns among the family. These interactions often closely mirror ones found in the home, despite the introduction of the therapist into the setting.
Family therapists are frequently more interested in maintaining relationships and solving problems rather than identifying causes for the issue or issues at hand because some families or family members might perceive analysis as looking for ways of placing blame on one or more family members. AFTERCARE HELPS YOU TRANSITION TO LIFE AFTER ADDICTION

For the chronic addict or alcoholic, life after addiction treatment can be a life of freedom if you have the right tools and can transition properly to a sober life. However, if you don’t have the proper tools, then long-term recovery is unlikely and the unmanageability of drugs and alcohol will return.

Burning Tree Ranch’s Aftercare Program gives chronic addicts and alcoholics the tools and skills to be able to transition to a life of sobriety after a rehab program.

Two Phases of After Care

After going through the Burning Tree Ranch recovery process and the Family Program, clients begin transitioning to our After Care program.

Our transition is designed to be slow and strategic. When helping chronic addicts and alcoholics we have found that most of our clients needed a smoother transition from treatment back into the real world.

Our After Care Program lasts a little over a year and is designed to develop needed life skills and gives our clients the time to adjust to sober living and make sobriety a habit.

1. Sober Living Aftercare Phase:

The first phase of our aftercare program is going to our gender-specific sober living home in Dallas. Our sober living homes are structured to have high accountability and community.

2. Independent Living Phase:

We recommend participants transition into independent living with one or two peers from the Burning Tree Ranch community. This helps each member of our aftercare program keep each other accountable and inside the Burning Tree community.
